Pioneers spin yarn, spin rope, and spin tales during Spring
Break week at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg every spring.
Frontier-style family activities take place Monday
through Saturday on the grounds of the museum. Re-enactors demonstrate
quilting, spinning, blacksmithing, rope making, and old-fashioned chuck wagon
cooking. Storytellers tell tales from the old days. Representatives of
the Lakota Sioux and the Buffalo Soldiers set up camp and answer questions and explain their native culture.
During Spring Break, the whole family can get involved in learning.
Demonstrators welcome children to try their hand at spinning thread, hammering a
horseshoe nail, or making an old-fashioned wooden toy.
All
week long, the museum's regular exhibits and buildings are open for viewing.
Visitors can walk through one of the first stores in Fredericksburg, a
smokehouse, blacksmith shop, and an original Sunday House. The Museum Store is open with its collection of history books and classic games and toys.
Admission to Spring Break activities is the regular Pioneer Museum fee of $4 for
adults; age 12 and under free.
Fredericksburg is a popular destination for the Spring Break getaway. The hill
